a5c7b9f00b Mark Corley is a Los Angeles police detective who visits his estranged teenage son, Trent, having landed in jail due to brawling justan alien invasion begins and the entire population of the city is sucked into various spaceships by the blue light. Mark leads a group of surviving humans through the underground subway tunnels to try to escape from the various aliens. (Wikipedia) A tough-as-nails detective embarks on a relentless pursuit to free his son from a nightmarish alien warship. Fun movie that needs to stop taking itself so seriously. A little humor would have been a great addition. The special effects are actually pretty good. The story of aliens harvesting humans is nothing new. However, the brain munching adds a touch of the unique. I'm always a little irritated when the aliens kill everyone with a quick, single stroke, except for the main charachters. They always have a bonus allotment of time to escape what would otherwise be certain death. Oh my god. Random scenes happen without any connection to anything else. Absurdly clumsy plot devices abound. Empty corridors suddenly have things in them. Nobody eats, and there is no food anywhere. There's no wider image to any of the architecture - it's all just a bunch of sets glued together. Repeated hints at it being in Vietnam, despite being shot in obviously Cambodia. And, the piece de resistance, "Jason and the Argonauts" quality animation. Seriously, Wallace and Gromit was more convincing.

Well paced though, and engrossing in a B-movie fashion. You'll certainly find better alien mayhem films than Beyond Skyline, but some creative special effects, interesting fights, and fun, alien brain-sucking will keep you moderately – but solidly – entertained.
